Liven up your basket surfaces! In this workshop, learn to coil a basket and then use paint to make the surface come alive with design and color. Working over a fiber core, you’ll be using dyed and natural raffia to sew the form together. Bring sketches, ideas and text to develop a personal pattern or story that will be painted on the outer wall of the basket. All levels welcome. Download Materials List.

Working with coiled basketry since 1980, Elizabeth Whyte Schulze has developed a body of work that is a fusion of primitive art, prehistoric markings, cave paintings and graffiti. Travel plays a significant role in providing her with inspiration, experience and enjoyment. Recipient of the 2009 Massachusetts Cultural Council Fellowship for Crafts, her work can be found in the collections of corporations, governmental offices, private  collectors and museums across the country.
