PRINTMAKING:  MONOTYPE AND THE PERCEPTUAL IMPULSE

This workshop, presented by a painter in love with the monotype, will focus on printmaking that calls on critical visual examination and disciplined looking. Without stressing rendering or naturalism, participants will draw from windows, use a camera, go outside briefly, and analyze artists’ images of all sorts to fuel our studio work. Stuart Shils has been making monotypes in response to landscape forms for almost 15 years.  He has had solo exhibitions around the US as well as in Israel and Ireland. Critical reviews of his work have appeared in numerous publications including The New York Times and Art in America. Awards include the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Pollock-Krasner, and the NEA. Stuart has taught monotype, drawing and painting across the country and abroad.
